Nilu Says...

Children have a knack of saying the wrong things at the wrong time, that more often than not, puts the parents in an embarassing spot. But then again, with all their innocence and genuine curiosity, one cant help but have a good laugh.

Here are a few things Nilu says...

  • You say I'm a big girl but still call me baby.
  • What is behind the sky?
  • I want to be a princess like Cinderella and wear glass slippers with high-heels.
  • I think you eat very well, thats why you are so strong with big arms - To a very healthy family friend.
  • Why are you swallowing your mouth into your throat? - To her great-grandmother who wears dentures, and Nilu happened to see her without them.
  • Hey, why do you eat so many chocolates, thats why your teeth are so brown - To a polite stranger who smiled (and had rotten teeth!) at us while shopping.
  • I feel like eating chicken and fish - Announces at a tam-brahm wedding inviting a collective gasp and shocked expressions from a handful of paatis.
  • Where is the fish's bum - To a friend who has recently accquired an aquarium, and was enthusiastically showing her how the fish eat and swim.

I can go on on and on....but will pen down for now.

Whatever I Want...

We were driving back home from another child's (this little girl had a new born sister) birthday party, when suddenly Nilu announced that she wanted a baby sister then and there. Since we were unprepared to answer such a question, we told her the first thing that came to our minds. I said maybe God did not want to give her a sister so that she alone would get our love, attention and whatever else she wanted. She paused for a few seconds and excitedly told us 'Ok, you said you can give me whatever I want, so give me a sister I'!

Nilanjanaa – My Bundle of Joy

You came into this world
With a loud squeal and yelp.
Your tiny little face,
All pink and round.
You kicked and cried,
And quickly closed your eyes.
To fall into a deep slumber,
While I held you in my arms.
Translucent fingers and toes;
Curled up,
So small, so sweet,
Smelling of divine baby fragrances.
With a coo you made me smile.
With a gurgle you won my heart.
What could be more perfect?
What could be more bliss?
My precious bundle of joy.
Such a miracle baby you are.
